Visakhapatnam: By continuous efforts for streamlining operations and close coordination with freight customers, Waltair Division of East Coast Railway (ECoR) has registered all-time high record in iron ore loading.

On an average 14 rakes per day were loaded in April 2023-January 2024 compared to average 11 rakes per day in the corresponding period of FY 22-23. This resulted in best ever iron ore loading of 18.34 million tonnes during the current financial year (Apr-Jan) which is substantially higher than 14.63 million tonnes loaded last year i.e. an increase of 25.36 per cent.

Waltair division achieved best-ever loading of 63.6 rakes per day in the month of January 2024 surpassing the previous best of 62.4 rakes per day achieved in March 2023, considering all commodities.

Divisional Railway Manager Saurabh Prasad attributed the record loading to better coordination with customers including NMDC, RINL, JSW Steel and KIOCL and joint efforts of all operations and maintenance wings of Waltair Division.
